How long have you taught at IST?
This is now my eighth year teaching at IST. It is strange and rewarding to see my first IST students now in Middle and High School!
Describe IST in 3 words…
Curiosity, Community, Positivity – walking through the school each day, it is clear to see students and teachers enjoying what they are doing.
What is your favorite thing about the community?
My favorite thing about the IST community is the community spirit. Everyone in the community is trying their best to make the school a positive place to work and learn.
What are the typical characteristics of an IST student?
An IST student is curious and caring. They like to ask questions to learn more about the world around them. They look after their friends and make sure any new students are made to feel welcome. They try their best even if something is difficult, and they encourage others to do the same.
What is your favorite memory at IST?
The Grade 5 graduation is always an emotional day. Seeing the students grow from their arrival into Grade 1 and develop into articulate and confident young people, giving multilingual speeches to a large crowd of people, gives a real sense of pride in each and every student.
What would you be if you weren’t a teacher?
If I wasn’t a teacher, I would love to spend more time in the ocean, working in scuba diving or researching marine biology. It is always nice and quiet underwater, too!
