IST Class of 2020
Currently: second year of Business and Management Studies BSc (Hons) with Spanish for Professional Purposes at the University of Sussex, Brighton.
How long did you attend IST?
I attended IST for eight years, starting my journey in March 2012 and ending it in June 2020 after
graduating from high school.
What was your thesis title?
“The interests governments of developing countries, such as the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC),
have in turning a blind eye to Child Labor”. After carefully analyzing various case studies and both
qualitative and quantitative data, I discovered that the DRC’s government had interests in not stopping child
labor due to the economic benefit it brought to the country, because it is the primary source of income for
numerous families and because major multinationals have their cobalt supplied from the DRC.
What was your IST House?
Busara was my IST House, where I passed from being a quiet 12 years old kid to a 19 years old young man
capable of becoming an active member and leader of this fantastic community.
In what ways were you prepared for your future studies?
IST does a spectacular job in teaching its students to critically analyse modern day situations and thinking
outside the box, stressing the importance of having an own opinion on whatever the discussed topic is.
These will be fundamental skills necessary to master university, especially if a student’s objective is to study
in an English university.
In Grade 5, you planned on being…?
Honestly, I had no idea and if we consider that I decided what to study just one month prior to the start of
university I am not surprised! Moreover, don’t let anyone rush you when making such an important decision.
What is your favourite memory from your years at IST?
Arriving at school in the mornings is my favourite IST memory. This as a consequence of the special and
positive atmosphere a student could breathe when walking down the corridors at IST, which made every
single individual understand that they would have faced their studies in a way that no other school allows
you to.
